OOTD: Turtlenecks!

I had an early morning brunch with a couple of my closest girlfriends this morning.  It was pretty chilly when I woke up so I decided to break out a turtleneck.  I think it's been a couple of years since I've worn the one hanging in my closest ... but today it just felt right!

turtleneck - Jacob
jeans - Paige Premium Denim
purse - Rebecca Minkoff MAM
braided belt - Taula @ Aritzia

The one I'm wearing is a heavier wool turtleneck, but I really would like to try one of the lighter tissue-tee styles.  I think they look so classy!  EmersonMade makes a basic black turtleneck in this type of material, and best yet, you get 2 for the price of one!  The brand EmersonMade is slightly more pricey, but I find you are paying for a more unique look.  But her basics are offered at a more affordable price!  You can't beat 2 turtlenecks priced at $58 USD - LOVE!
Both turtlenecks come in this adorable cloth bag

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Lounging on the couch, just chilling in my snuggie...

That pretty much sums up my 10-day time off from work!  I loved just being a bit lazy and having full entire days to just relax - there were times I even lost track of time!  It's been a pretty stressful year (personal & work) so relaxing was right up my alley, now don't get me wrong, I didn't just do NOTHING - if anyone knows me well they would know that that would drive me up the wall.  I ran a couple errands. did some much needed shopping and spent time up North at jmts' family cottage for the Thanksgiving weekend!

Cottage:  I don't know how we wound up with such great weather, but it was incredible, and we were all thankful.  Just starting with the drive and seeing all the trees change color.  It was a beautiful site - vibrant colors of red, orange, yellow and green.  I wish I could have been in the truck for hours on end ... well I guess there was that day that we were!  On the way back, we were on the road from 10AM - 7PM (dropped jmts' brother at McMaster, then stopped in to see his grandparents and then back home).  But I didn't complain there was something really calming about the drive.  Like I said the weather was great so we could really enjoy our time outdoors - playing cards on a picnic table, walks on the beach and even a campfire - guess a NASA blanket helps ;)  There were also good times had indoors - lots of movies, reading, conversation and a turkey dinner!

Here are some pics from the weekend!

Shopping:  I was in dire need of some Fall clothes ... I ended up purchasing a couple things that I really wanted & maybe needed.  I purchased a black cap sleeve dress with a pleated skirt from Zara, a grey sweater from Aritzia, a pair of gold hoop earrings & textured tights from Banana Republic.  My most exciting purchase was these Tory Burch flats from Holts!!!  I despeartely needed a pair of black flat shoes (I know it's crazy, that I don't have a pair!) but I really needed something to walk around in other than my black flipflops!
To keep in the clothing category, here are some outfits I wore throughout the week.  I kept it really casual, almost too casual some days!  I lived in a pair of lululemon tights!!!
sweater - Jacob
purple tee - Victoria's Secret
tights - lululemon
headband - JCrew
nailpolish - Essie Angora Cardi

cardigan - aerie
blouse - garage clothing

Errands: I had a couple of things I've been wanting to take care of in the past couple of months and I was able to get most of them done.  The most pressing was to get my passport renewed.  I went to a suburb of Toronto to get my passport done, thinking this would result in a much quicker wait time, and it did!!!  I was in and out with a new passport in the mail within 30 minutes!  SCORE!  The one errand I didn't get around to was selecting my Hallowe'en costume.  jmts' brother gave me a great idea and I think I'll run with it, just need to now find elements of my costume!  Maybe that's a to-do this weekend :)  One of my close g/f's has a traditional bday/Hallowe'en party every year, I can't wait!
Passport Holder from Etsy - $5!
I still have a couple more days of vacation left and I can't wait to continue enjoying them.  I have a girls brunch planned for tomorrow and a couple appointments to start looking for a house!!!  Eeeeee!! ;)

Black on Black on Black...

I'm talking about my look today.  Black jacket, black skirt and black tights (ohh ... and surprise black shoes!).  I've been wearing my new black bomber jacket from Joe Fresh every single day this week and I really love the look.  It's faux leather as I wasn't ready to commit to a $300+ leather jacket until I knew I liked the look of a leather jacket on me (I think it looks great on others).  I purchased the Joe Fresh version in an XS and I feel that it fits a bit larger than other XS's at different retailers.  I love that the jacket is lined so that it will keep me warm as the months get cooler.

Also, here is my outfit under my jacket.

Speaking of black clothing, I recently purchased this black sweater dress.  I've been wanting a classic black sweater dress for a while now.  I think I can pair it with black tights & a belt for a more conservative look for work and then dress it up for a nice dinner party or night out.  I purchased this one at Old Navy surprisingly for about $45.

It's ... Boot Season!

I was very excited this morning when I realized it was going to be a cool and crisp day.  I know, sounds crazy that I would be excited about the cold weather, but when it gets miserable out, you gotta find the positive.  Sooo, I pulled out my first pair of boots this Fall season :)  I never really understood boots in terms of a fashion statement until just last year when I found the perfect pair - the Frye Melissa Button boot
This boot is the perfect riding boot.  I purchased it in black, but it comes in all colors.  I might have a to get a pair of brown ones in the future.  They are a bit pricey, but totally worth the money as the riding boot will never go out of style and they are made from 100% leather.

Below is my OOTD wearing my coveted boots!
shirt - Zara
black riding pants - F21
boots - Frye

Speaking of boots, I really do want a pair of dark brown boots.  Not the cognac color, I have a pair of those (with a heel), but more of a dark brown.  Not sure if I would like them to be flat or have a heel at this point.  But here is a great inspiration pic from probably the cutest preggo I have ever seen.

And another pair from Coach.
(ok, by the looks of things, I'm thinking flat boots!)

I also want a pair of black Uggs (shhhh ... not sure if Uggs are really fashion forward) but I think they are so comfortable and great for walking to and from the train for work.  Also good for running errands and hitting the gym in the Wintertime.

Tickled Pink - Baby Shower Soiree!

I had the pleasure of attending my good friend's baby shower this weekend.  It was hosted by another good friend who is the guest of honors bff!  She did an amazing job with the decorations, food, prizes and small details that were noticed by all!  One of the unique attributes to the shower was that it was a Soiree, so it was later in the evening -- pretty much a dinner party!  I thought it was a great change to the typical afternoon shower.

I immediately got excited about the shower when I saw the invite!  ADORABLE!  I love anything paper, so I was soooo thrilled when I found out the hostess created this herself!

The hostess let the guests select wine glasses that included tags with famous moms written on them.  She then had us searching her house for their children (well name tags with the coordinating baby names to the moms that were written on our wine glasses).  When we left we had to submit the name tags for our parting gift - a nail polish in all different shades of pink.  What a unique idea!

Table is set for dinner!  The party colors were pink & brown.

The hostess & amazing help!

Yummy Desserts -- the brownies were homemade and so delicious!
Gifts!

Thongs as game prizes!

Here is a pic of the glowing mom-to-be, myself & my bff!
Can't wait to meet baby!!!  She's due early December!

Also, I got a manicure/pedicure the day before the shower and tried out a baby pink color.
Essie - Beach Party

Lastly, here is my OOTD!  I love this lace top from Aritzia.  It can really dress up an outfit!

OOTD - Grey & Yellow

Another quick post of my outfit of the day!  I decided to wear a skirt that is normally part of my Summer wardrobe and pair it with tights & a cardigan - it was raining when I left so I needed to add a bit of color to add 'pep to my step'!

cardigan - Jacob
skirt - American Eagle
tights - Jcrew
t-shirt - Gap
nail polish - Essie Beach Party

I had a great weekend that was topped off with attending a good friend's Baby Shower Soiree on Saturday night!  Her best friend did an amazing job organing, planning and executing.  I can't wait to share a couple photos -- look out for my next post!
